I'm Caroline, a coral reef scientist, academic editor and writing coach based in Plymouth, UK.

I have a PhD in coral immunology and have spent most of the past two decades in research and conservation, from coral labs in Australia and the USA to running a coral conservation charity and leading reef restoration strategy in Costa Rica. I'm now also a Research Associate in AI at Tel Aviv University, looking at how AI is changing knowledge work.

Since 2020 I've run CVP Editing, helping students, researchers and academics write more clearly and publish their work. I also run online Writing Circles for undergraduates and postgraduates, and an Academic Writing Studio for academics who need protected time to write.

Here I write about academic writing, the realities of life in science and academia (particularly for women), coral reefs and conservation, and, now and then, home education and life as a working parent.
